Thanks to the Friends, we gave out hundreds of Take and Make craft kits to kids over the summer, as well as thousands of books to encourage literacy. Attendees honored all past and present board members over the course of 30+ years for their contributions and dedication to the Charleston Friends of the Library, with a special focus on Founder Sara Briebart. Their fundraising efforts are instrumental in ensuring grant money is sourced and applied for. I'm so grateful for the work that the Friends do, not only raising vital funds for programming, but also serving as ambassadors for the Library. October 20-26, 2019 is the 13th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and it's the perfect opportunity for the administration and trustees of the Bridgeville Public Library to give our Friends a big shout out for all they do to make a difference for us every single day. Joining the Friends of the Library is a terrific way to make new friends of your own, and give back to our town and make its library even better. Friends of Libraries can be an essential source of funding for local libraries dependent upon local grants to keep existing facilities up and to run. National Friends of Libraries Week promotes groups who support libraries across the country. Discussion points included forming a not-for-profit corporation, qualifying for tax exemptions, fiduciary duties, and the governance and accountability of nonprofit boards. They are cheerful, friendly and even during these difficult times are here preparing their new Bookstore for opening. Our session focused on "brick and mortar" bookstores run completely by volunteers to raise funds to support their libraries' extra needs. This year's FLS Annual Meeting for the Membership was like no other that we have had before. This included outdoor storytime mats, a phone stand for virtual programming, wagon, buttonboy, UV wand and more.
