The pacing of this thriller was a bit of a mixed bag for me; I had hoped for something utterly addictive, that would keep me completely hooked from the first page to the last.
Dr. Connie Woolwine, an American forensics psychologist and Brodie Baarda, a London detective, team up to solve the missing person cases in Edinburgh. Connie is a very interesting character and brings so much depth to the story. Fully satisfied and fully realized, one for sorrow involves a serial bomber and a slew of interesting suspects and compelling characters on the investigative teams. She's working with Detective Baarda and they are trying to find the victims who have been kidnapped. The killer was however keen enough not to leave any clues behind. He has an actual diagnosis and his behaviour realistically follows the symptoms of his condition. While I'd figured out quite a bit by the 50% mark, there were still enough surprises - one that completely shocked me. Without revealing her true reason for being there, Woolwine works to explore who might have wanted the victim dead and how it could be accomplished without anyone else knowing. By the story's second half, I was completely hooked. Seriously chilling, dark and sinister. Some books take off from page one, while others need a bit more time to find their rhythm.
