I quickly attached myself to the characters and their personalities (Frankie was a favorite of mine!! ) But on the other hand, the story dragged in parts for me, and when I thought we should surely be close to finishing the story, there was still 40% left of the book. In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is required reading for fans of Donna Tartt's The Secret History and Amy Gentry's Bad Habits. I would advise going into this book not knowing much - though warnings for sexual assault and physical violence (which the e-book did advise of). The story moves very slowly, but does contain lots of twists and turns. If I had not known better, I would have assumed this was a YA mystery. I absoutely loved, loved, loved it! Though I began not liking the main character very much, the author was able to flesh her character out so well that I began to identify and sympathize with her. She is determined to stand out and make people notice and envy her as never before. My head is reeling trying to come up with theories, and I definitely did not come close. But not everyone has moved on from the murder, someone has been compiling evidence long after the police have given up on the case. In my dreams i hold a knife who killed heather carter. The combination of riveting characters, roller coaster plot twists and vivid campus setting made for quite the impressive read!
One unsolved murder. Ten years ago, everything fell apart, including the dreams Jessica worked for her whole life and her relationship with the one person she wasn't supposed to love. There are many things I absolutely LOVED about this novel! One of the best things I can say about a book is that I continued thinking about it or puzzling over it while I wasn't reading. In my dreams i hold a knife who killed heather young. Over the course of a single shocking night, Ashley Winstead peels back lie after lie, exposing the poisoned roots of ambition, friendship, and belonging itself. The cherry on top of this deliciously dark read is a cinematic, gut-punch of an ending—the kind of finale that feels built for the big screen, and more than makes up for any slower start that some readers may find this book to have.
So, I could clearly visualise the settings, people, and events. There are themes of friendship and competition, class struggles, parental expectations, addiction, emotional and sexual trauma, and narcissism. I highly recommend this gem to everyone!!! However, readers who are looking for thrills and tension right off the bat may find that it takes a bit of patience for that element of this story to fully kick in. And I easily connected with her because even though you hate your, you wish to grab her shoulders to shake some sense into her: you cannot help yourself for being sorry for her as well. I had a fun time reading this twisty novel. I love stories about old friends coming together when there are secrets to deal with, and I thought the characters were so well-drawn. The character development is so well done! Now, ten years after leaving Duquette, Jess has the external markers of success that she so desperately sought, and she is determined that her college reunion will finally be her moment to prove to her former classmates once and for all that she is someone, and that she is worthy. What Jessica doesn't expect is for this Homecoming weekend turning into a giant who-done-it!

If you liked Marisha Pessl's Neverworld Wake or Laurie Elizabeth Flynn's The Girls Are All So Nice Here, trust me--you will love this. On the one hand these third person chapters offer what is essential in good writing; showing not telling. Not without faults, a reader would be tempted to view her as superficial as she's so focused on her image. He is there to solve his sister's murder and finally bring her killer to justice. Every character has at least one dark, damning secret they're hiding. Overall: A 10 year college graduation reunion celebration is about to be happening for "The East House 7" of Duquette University. Which is why I'm giving it 4/5 stars. I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review I loved this one. I do really think that she did honestly care about her friends from school, but her need to be better than them kind of makes her a mean girl too. But as much as they'd like to put the past behind them and show off their current selves—no one more than Jessica, who felt she didn't ever get all she deserved—someone is determined to unmask the real killer from among the remaining friends and won't stop until they do.
Ashley girl... you got me a fan for life haha;). On the other hand, though, I find these sudden, unexpected shifts can take the reader out of the novel/be distracting. At first we thought that she was annoying, but decided, no, she was completely insufferable. I was kept on the edge of my toes the entire time and the ending came together so smoothly with an addictive twist and finale.
Absolutely loved it! The case is unsolved, although the police had a prime suspect, a boy who became a piranha to his classmates, all except Jess, who never truly believed he did it. Now she is an Upper East Side girl named partner at one of the most sought after positions at a consulting company in NYC. Ashley Winstead expertly lets the characters take the story forward and successfully manages to keep the readers hooked! What I'd be hoping was a twist was usually just a revelation that one of the friends cheated on another one with someone else in the group! They were the definition of cool, everyone wanted to be how the mighty have one of them is found brutally murdered in their dorm and one of them is accused... 😳. It really kept you guessing how everything tied together and just who was ultimately responsible.
I couldn't read this book fast enough! That was Jessica Miller for me. I'd met dangerous people—truly dangerous people—and seen the violence in their eyes, heard it brimming in their voices. Jessica was sure she was making life-long bonds that nothing could ever break. It is hard to believe that this is a debut!
Reading this book contributed to these challenges: Therefore, I found it difficult not to compare the two. Take pity on us poor readers who need to keep characters straight in our heads! My main problem with love triangles is there's always a clear choice the character at the center of it is going to make and no reason for them to end up with the other leg of it. In fact, someone has orchestrated the whole weekend to trap the real killer. Her friend group includes the golden prince of campus (and her ex-boyfriend) Mint and the resident bad boy (and her ex-lover) Coop.
