It Is Finished - Good Friday 2021
On the cross, we are united with Him in death, so that we might also be united with Him in life (Romans 6:3-11). Jesus then looked to heaven and asked God to "forgive them, for they do not know what they do. " And why does he reserve this as his last and final words? A story where it looks like sin and shame and death have won. But God is so loving that He has righteous wrath against sin. On the cross, Jesus took our sin upon His own shoulders (1 Peter 2:24). If you're able to think above the sadness, or see past your hate, the darkness in midday might make you pause for a second. The work accomplished on the Cross did conquer and finish sin once and for all, but it does not mean we should go on sinning. I'm sure the enemy and his minions were rejoicing, believing that they had victory in this world, but hold on…. Now no one is singing Hosanna for the Prophet.

Try as he might, Pilate can't agree with them about the threat level of this man Jesus. I want you to know, that's not what it's all about. Jesus drank the cup of God ' s wrath to the dregs. This includes items that pre-date sanctions, since we have no way to verify when they were actually removed from the restricted location. Our Gospel lesson tonight began at John 19. Is This Friday Good Friday
The Events of Good Friday. And remember, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God, not three, so the wrath is the Father's, the Son's, and the Spirit's wrath, not the Father's only. He did not say, "I am finished, " for that would imply that he died defeated and exhausted. He's going to have Jesus repeat this a couple of verses later. It is the brightest and hottest part of the day. What is "good" about being beaten, flogged, whipped, broken, crucified, and buried (Matthew 27:27-61, Mark 15:16-47, Luke 23:26-54, John 19:16-42)? That's what was finished. So that the page could be turned, a new chapter could begin, and the story could reach its resolution. What so troubled Jesus' soul in Gethsemane wasn't his impending death, it was drinking the cup of God's wrath for our sin to the dregs. That symbolizes the garden of Eden, at the beginning.
Good Friday Is On
Nearly every moment of Good Friday was a fulfillment of prophecy. So, when pondering Good Friday, I pray it causes us to slow down a bit.
It will feel as though the pavement is too hard and we will never grow up through it. I am a Christ-follower, wife, mom, author, and speaker. And in the middle of His pain, in the middle of His body failing—His shoulders long out of socket, His legs cramping, His lungs filling with fluid and every breath a struggle—God the Father begins to pour out His wrath on sin. It is finished assures those who trust in Jesus that we have been rescued from hell and saved for eternity. For three days, sin and death looked to be victorious.
Only a descendant of Aaron could pass through the curtain on the Day of Atonement to sprinkle the blood on the sacrifice, for because of our sin we could not stand in the presence of God. And while Jesus said "It is finished" (John 19:30) that fateful day on the cross, the story is far from over. Why Does Jesus Say "It Is Finished"? Items originating from areas including Cuba, North Korea, Iran, or Crimea, with the exception of informational materials such as publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, tapes, compact disks, and certain artworks. And Pilate is nervous. It doesn't work that way. Jesus is the Messiah and the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14).
