I was a bit sad when I didn't get more of her. But Lynet likes to climb trees and doesn't how to use a door if a room has a window, she's more than just the ghost of her mother, she's her own person. That's pretty much all I can say without giving too much away, but I loved, loved, LOVED this book so much. I'm wee bit dissapointed that Nadia didn't play any important role in the actuall story but I really loved her as Lynet's love-interest. He started to run around.
She never knew her own mother and discovers during the course of the story that a magician, under her Father's orders, actually made her from snow. Her exploration of mother-daughter relationships was simply exquisite, and I know this story will stay with me for a long time. I appreciate the nod towards diversity. It was just too slow, too simple, and honestly just too boring. I thought, I'd try to recreate her younger look, back when she just arrived at Winterspring. Mulan: Uh... I also think Lynet was developed really well, and the way the story followed her progression was so subtle you almost don't notice how well her arc is constructed throughout the story. 99 on kindle US today 6/27/20. However, I wasn't as in love with her as I was with Mina. Synopsis: Both of you always had a rocky relationship, teetering on the edges of hatred and love. I knew that day was approaching for me. Why am I always so surprised? This book does have feministic undertones, and I loved every aspect pertaining to those undertones with my whole heart.

Mina's role as the stepmother didn't feel inherently evil at all. Moreover, I think that last chapter was bit too rushed. Some I like and some I tolerate. Lynet's own struggles are all about identity and agency, but just as enticing.
This was an above average retelling of Snow White and it wasn't bad at all. All Yao wanted was a girl who worships the dirt he walks on (which is saying a lot on account of his ape-like structure and permanent black eye). I really expected Nadia to be a huge aspect of the story, being Lynet's love interest, but I was stunned to see how little "screen time" she actually got. Ling: I would be true.

Lynet's was probably the most obvious one, but not in a bad way. Maybe they didn't mean the same thing for everyone. With this book the story certainly changed quite a bit and took on a whole new life of it's own but still had those twinges of the original to bring back the nostalgia. Lynet's story picks up the present and eventually the entire story entwines bringing the reader to the lives and relationship of the two woman. This book constantly looks at the ways in which women are perceived through a gaze, and then gives these characters their own narratives, centring them in stories about them regaining their own agency, because they need it. It's another retelling like no other. Bashardoust uses this element to further the themes, especially alienation and ostracisation. We get to see things from the not-so-evil stepmother/queen (Mina), and the princess (Lynet). But what do you do if you break before the end? This is a story of two girls, Lynet-who is destined to be the queen after her father and Mina-Lynet's stepmother, who is a magician's daughter and is from southern lands. I could honestly gush all day about how excellent and complex the mother/daughter relationships in this book are, but I'll try to talk about other stuff now.

That's not what I'm saying. Those transitions were flawless, and I never struggled to keep the perspectives separate, as they felt like distinctly different narratives. ▪ A Snow White retelling with a feminist twist. We learned very little about her and her character underwent minimal development, so I couldn't even formulate a solid opinion on her.
All I wanna ever say is, 'Are you mine? And where better to look than to his new friends in Savanaclaw? The blood served as a reminder of who she was, what she was made of. HOLY SMOKES this was everything I ever wanted in a Snow White / Frozen fairytale-esque retelling. Apart from the settings, the most important thing that set this book apart is the characterisation.
Her blossoming relationship with Nadia is sweet, but very slow-moving and unacknowledged for the bulk of the story. The depth with which the mother/daughter relationship of the Snow White and the Evil Queen is dealt with is compelling and occasionally heart-wrenching. I know from the synopsis it sounds a little strange but trust me, it works! Gedde Watanabe, Jerry Tondo, and Harvey Fierstein reprised the song in Mulan II while playing the roles of Yao, Ling, and Chien Po. Of course, it was a happily ever after, not just for Lynet, but also for Mina. "Being delicate had killed her mother, and yet he was so eager to bestow that quality on her. It was a fun read that I didn't really want to put down, and I'm eager to see what else Melissa Bashardoust comes up with! Jamil had always found Azul's attention annoying, but after the overblotting incident the merman became downright insufferable. And it's so natural, so elegant, it makes you wonder: how am I only hearing this version now? Can we allow ourselves to change, or are we doomed to be a particular person no matter what choices we make? But -yes, there is a but here - I'm not particularly sold on the romance.
