Who Is Chris Spotz? The Suspect At The Heart Of "To Live And Die In L.A
Mary was already back in LA, as we know. There's a hat, 2 pairs of boots, at least hundred rounds of live ammunition, a gun magazine, a key, and a receipt from Anawalt Lumber. But in the 19 days leading up to Adea's murder in February, there are 41 calls between Chris Spotz and Chris Marez. I knew it wasn't, you know, but they had to do their job and it was, you know, it was actually you know…squirrels. I went to the back office. Mary: That she would be open to doing that. I didn't know it was gonna get to this extent, what the fuck?
The podcast team has retraced Chris's movements. He said, I never touched her. I'm, I know I lived a simple life, and this is all just so surreal. KIM: Definitely not a Chris thing. Neil Strauss: Oh, so yeah, yeah. NS-VO: Chris Marez has just basically admitted that Chris Spotz got the twine that Adea was wrapped in from his property.
I mean I work local from the sheriff's department for a long time. We can keep your name and identity completely anonymous if you want. It contains the items they took from Chris Spotz's truck. But Chris said, my dad is, he's big and he's strong. There's also in the tox report, it's showing caffeine, valium, and THC or marijuana. So I feel confidant in concluding that Chris Spotz's allegations about Sam were completely fabricated in an act of fear and desperation. Jayden Brandt: I can pretty much say he was shot this way. NS: And when was the last time you actually did see him? Oh, they don't say his name? You never did anything for me.
Jayden Brandt: In that story, they did not name him. She was drunk and that's the way her mom wa…his mom was. "On Friday the last thing she told me was that I would never see her again, " Chris texted a friend on February 25. This family's son went missing late last year and they haven't had the support they need. He said that's why he never dated anybody like my mom, and he couldn't get away from her because she's always … He hates his mom, but he always wanted. He attended Stella Adler Academy of Acting alongside Adea, and it's believed that's where they met. And you're not gonna believe this. CM: I never told them any of that I just told them what happened was, my son came back, my son came back, I can remember what day it was. NS: Doesn't give the family closure. NS-VO: What's going through my head right now is that when I first called Chris Marez, he was saying the nicest things about his son. Disturbingly, it reads like a prediction of Adea's murder: "If I picked up the gun, and made the sacrifice, my life would be given back to me, " Spotz says. Then, according to To Live and Die in L. A., Adea told friends she might be pregnant with Chris' baby. CM: It was probably maybe 2 feet by 1 and a half feet.
Neil Strauss: It's a Tacoma, 2015. He was so angry at me. CM: No, no, she was not there. Her response: is it about Chris Marez? Neil Strauss: Yeah, well you can just say, like, nobody knows.
You know when, CM: no, no, no. However, the same source who showed me the photo of Adea said that investigators believed that someone had tried to dig a grave for Adea at Chris Marez's property. I mean as far as like …him, like helping them commit the crime? It was just sad, you know, just seemed like that. Adea knew about this relationship, but it's not clear how much Mary knew about Adea. NS-VO: One of the reasons I'm doing this podcast is to specifically ask for information on behalf of both families now involves. Chris Marez: He said that? The story's out there now.
They know he had a friend in the car. I make a note to explore that further. It's pretty extensive. My son was a good storyteller.
And when we got in an argument, he took off. But see, the craziest thing is, like I told the detectives, I said, "You would think he would say something to me. " Neil Strauss: What friends? A month later, her remains were found in a shallow grave in the woods. Exactly what happened to her. Neil Strauss: Hey man, what's happening? Neil Strauss: You're kidding. CM: No, no…when he came in. And I guess he was saying that it was Sam, which is Chris's brother, that he had died and that they were coming up here for the funeral and I guess they were traveling up here to go to the funeral or whatever to stay with Chris. And that, NS: Is it okay to use these on the, you okay with that?
NS-VO: Special thanks to Rich Berner, Kevin Richter, Chris Cochran, Oren Seagal, Brian Fishbach, Ingrid De La O, Oren Rosenbaum at UTA, Resonate and the Nord Group. Including the google data and the Kim Marez interview… at the LAPD. Jayden Brandt: Oh no, it was live. He told me this when he, when he came that Thursday when he told me that he goes, dad, she reminded me of my mother and then I've always wanted to kill my mother and straight into my eyes. Didn't say nothing to me until like 11:30 and then I was like Holy Shit. Adea noticed her phone was missing again, and told her mother she thought Chris took it. Even though we've been so focused on him, there's no proof yet that he did this and that Adea is in fact dead as the news is reporting. My love would be given back.
He said, I don't, he's to this day still says, I don't know where they stopped? It's really fucking weird how he got pulled over. NS-VO: I wonder if the nightmare was a prophecy or an indication of a guilty conscience. CHP says the car was believed to be used in a homicide, but wouldn't confirm details. And that was to a burner phone with a 424 Los Angeles area code. KIM: So I remember Chris and I like got down and he goes, I don't know what's going to happen.
Like her story to sort of, fit into the narrative. We don't know how that's happening. The police put an alert for all police in different States to be on the lookout.
