And so, you know, I kind of really like to write about parenthood, and I find it very interesting, and I think that added that kind of loadedness to the narrative of you're going back and you're finding things that you thought were lost forever. I just was curious before I picked the book up exactly how it was going to play out. Speaking of recommendations, if you like the sound of this, you should also try Impossible by Sarah Lotz, which also has a time-bending theme. And that's such an interesting premise, that every night she would revisit it. If there was no ghosts in it, that would be a twist.

McAllister sticks to her rules reasonably faithfully so that the narrative hangs together. It just really brought a lot of those thoughts to the surface, and that really resonated with me. But it's not something that there are all these little breadcrumbs coming along, and either it's easy to predict or like I said before, it just comes from nowhere. And that's quite hard, especially sort of seven books in. I think that's kind of the clever twists. I have no trauma from it. To see things you hadn't at the time. And so when we were all sitting at home, it was a good opportunity to say, you know what? And then I think I got off on other aspects of perspective. And while the book has a fantastical premise, this is much more than a crime novel: it is a deep investigation into the antecedents of a crime, and the long-term consequences of life-changing decisions with all of the twists and turns that go along with that.

Your happy, funny, innocent son commits a terrible crime: murdering a complete stranger. Every time I look at it, I'm just like, okay, this is the perfect cover. How do you think this would translate into a film? Her reaction is visceral and extreme, as you would expect, but this seems to have a consequence Jen wasn't expecting… every time she wakes up, she goes back in time. Jen thought she knew her son.
