I had seen My Father's World (MFW) online, but dismissed it thinking it was too traditional for me. This makes the cost MUCH cheaper, but I still get that time with them. Like Lisa said, that feeling is not in MFW.

The one about the science being weak? How does My Father's World compare to Abeka? The amount in MFW is just right for us, and then allows time for ample free time for the younger kids, and ample running around to music lessons and sports for the older kids. And then realized, well, ok...

We have used K (using it for the 2nd time now), 1st, adventures, ECC, and CTG. While we love the read-aloud time my kids really love when I do the hands-on projects with them. We're kind of debating between My Father's World, and Sonlight. I feel like I am beginning to sound like I could write an ad for them... We LOVE MFW! I'm curious if there are others that have used FIAR and how you would compare the two? I briefly mentioned the cost earlier but this is a huge difference, as well. I personally do not think MFW is "light" or "easy" but rather I would describe MFW as: steeped in God's Word, rich, challenging, lots of great reading, fun, easy to do hands-on projects that truly enrich learning, no twaddle, good, sound science with manageble #/type of experiments... They were mostly coloring pages and oftentimes were links that didn't work. What made you choose the one you chose? If the library doesn't have that exact book in the list, I can find a similar book on the same topic. I find MANY SL books on this list and can just pull them off my shelf. For Sonlight I'm looking at Core 3 to do with both and with My Father's World I'm looking at doing Exploring Countries and Cultures with both. He didn't like it because the Bible portion was not Genesis. Bible is not tacked on but integrated into all subjects. It is not as intense as Abeka and more thorough than ACE. My oldest is going into 8th grade, but we are looking ahead to high school. In fact, I still have many of them today I read to my younger ones. J know for sure I'm their fiddler curriculum for zach. I have always used the book basket as a jumping off point for my library search, so I would get several books that aren't on the list too, but in 9th grade all the reading suggested was half a dozen chapter books for the entire year, most of which my children had already read. Read-aloud so stinking much. We used, and loved, My Father's World (MFW) curriculum from Kindergarten to 8th grade, but we did not like their high school program).

I use a lot of Sonlight (but I pick and chose the read-alouds because I use a different history curriculum). They end the story with the amount they started with and realize that indeed it was just the right amount. SL is a great company and their choices of books are top notch.

I spent time on Sonlight's Forum (the forum was later removed from their site) to find out tips on homeschooling and the cores (I'm a researcher by nature) and realized that they changed the cores every year. SL is no longer an option for us since I would not be able to combine my younger kids, and there is no way I could complete 2 SL cores. Or read books from the SL list. Is MFW on social media? Making your memories sweeter. Llinks to other ideas for activities are nothing like MFW- for example, making Johnny Cakes when you study Johnny Appleseed. Many grades are even set up for "tag-alongs", a. k. a toddler siblings who love to listen to all the great books. What helped you decide to switch to MFW?
